Apostle Paul And The Earliest Churches (2004)

Ephesus, Antioch, Tarsus, Galatia - an illuminating visit to the New Testament!

Apostle Paul and the Earliest Churches is a brilliant and illuminating production (documentary). Begining with his conversion, it reenacts Paul's missionary journeys on Anatolian soil (modern Turkey).

This film contains an archeological treasury: mosaics, frescoes, statues, amphitheaters, agoras, tmples, and more. The historical, religious, and archeological background of each Anatolian region in which Paul preached the gospel is explained. Yet Apostle Paul is more than an archeological or historical survey; this production's reinactment of the miracles Paul performed, the difficulties Paul encountered, and the persecution Paul faced beckons the viewer to experience with the Apostle himself the birth of the Christian Church.

The film's archeological emphasis is enhanced by 3D animated maps and footage of Antioch on the Orontes, Pisidian Antioch, Ephesus, Tarsus, and other cities important to Paul's ministry. Significant artifacts from a variety of Turkish museums are also discussed.

Wherever You Are (2008)

This emotional tale of rebellion and redemption is a wonderful illustration of God's love for us as outlined in John 3:16 and will be enjoyed by viewers of all ages.

The film and presentation by Max makes Wherever You Are an excellent tool to reach out to non-believers with a positive message of hope and love during this Easter Season and beyond. Ivanhoe (1982)

The kingdom's greatest defender in his greatest battle.

The legend returns!

From the famous novelist and poet Sir Walter Scott comes this TV miniseries classic, Ivanhoe.

A fictional story of one of the remaining Saxon noble families at a time when the English nobility was overwhelmingly Norman, it follows the Saxon protagonist, Wilfrid of Ivanhoe.

Wilfrid has lost favor with his father after courting Lady Rowena and proclaiming allegiance to the Norman King Richard I of England. Set in 1194 after the end of the Third Crusade, many of the Crusaders were still returning to Europe. King Richard escaped capture by the Duke of Saxony on his way back, but was still presumed to be held hostage. The legendary Robin Hood, initially under the name of Locksley, is also a character in the story, as are his 'merry men.'

Ivanhoe Complete Series (1997)

Ivanhoe was a 1997 television mini-series based on the novel Ivanhoe by Sir Walter Scott. It was a produced by the BBC and A&E Network and consisted of six 50 minute episodes.

A TV adaptation faithful to Sir Walter Scott’s novel set in 1192 AD about a disinherited knight who is accused of treachery in the Crusades returns to England anonymously, to his home to clear his name and win his lady love. Also King Richard has been a prisoner in an Austrian dungeon but is now returning to an England ruled by Prince John and the Normans. This series aims at realism, to look as close to how it would have been in a very rough and poverty stricken times rather than earlier sanitised versions. People wear layers of often old, sometimes ragged clothing to keep the cold out, are sometimes dirty, and have long shaggy hair and beards.

Florence Nightingale (2008)

Florence Nightingale considered her nursing career and activism a divine Christian calling.

Emmy® Award-winning director Daryl Duke (TV's The Thorn Birds) and Emmy® Award-winning writer Rose Leiman Goldemberg (TV's The Burning Bed) bring this classic TV movie to DVD starring Jaclyn Smith and Timothy Dalton.

This stirring drama is based on the life of Florence Nightingale, an aristocratic woman who defied Victorian society to reform hospital sanitation and to define the nursing profession as it is known today. After volunteering to travel to Scutari to care for the wounded soldiers of the Crimean war, she was scorned by her community and faced great opposition for her new way of thinking. However, through her selfless acts of caring, she quickly became known as "The Lady with the Lamp", the caring nurse whose shadow softened those wounded.

Bringing Up Bobby (2009)

A different kind of comedy about being kind of different.

Meet the Wylers—a family unlike any other ... and way too much like your own! "The message was very solid, the theology was sound. Not only that, but it was clean. I found myself laughing out loud several times. This is a very good family movie. You gotta see Bringing up Bobby."

KJB: The Book That Changed The World (2011)

2011 marks the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible. The King James Bible has shaped the English language, inspired political and religious thought for generations and, arguably, changed the world.

The story behind the King James Bible has been told before. And several new books this year will aim to tell it again. 1A Productions and Lions Gate studio have created a first class documentary featuring John Rhys-Davies which puts this story on screen. And the result is almost as breathtaking as the powerful prose of the King James Bible itself.

KJB: The Book That Changed the World takes us on a historical survey of the years preceding 1611 and the political and religious landscape which confronted the new King. The story follows James I from his birth to his ultimate ascension to the English throne. Particular focus is placed on the role the King James Bible would play in James? strategy to unify the landscape, politically and religiously.

Director and producer, Norman Stone does a fantastic job of capturing the life of Jacobean England with all of its intrigue. The plot of Guy Fawkes is detailed in memorable fashion. Filmed on location in England and Scotland, the film takes one inside Westminster Abbey and Oxford College to some of the actual rooms where the translators labored over their charge. The photography and quality of the film is superb, countrysides and cathedrals alike are displayed in all their evocative power.

John Rhys-Davies exudes energy and vigor in his lively narration. His booming, deep voice adds to the grandeur of the story. At one point he climbs up into the pulpit of a centuries-old church to read from the pages of the King James Bible.

The documentary focuses almost exclusively on the historical setting and making of the King James Bible, only briefly explaining its lasting impact. While acknowledging the place the Bible has for Christians, the film aims at a wider audience. At times some historical license seems to be taken to make the story fit the producer?s goals. While Puritans and Anglicans worked together on the various translation committees, it should be noted the Puritans were at a decided minority. More detail on translation techniques and practices could have been expected, too. Still the film does not disappoint. It brings to life the world of King James and the creation of his most lasting monument.

Greatest Story Ever Told

For the world it's still the Greatest story ever told

King of Kings (1961)

This 1961 version of Jesus' story gives historical context to the best-known Biblical tale and features many memorable moments, such as a moving Sermon on the Mount and a vixenish Salome dancing for her stepfather in a performance that rivals today's MTV video offerings. Orson Welles keeps the 168-minute film moving along with informative narration helpful to those who haven't read the New Testament in a while. Made with backgrounds that resemble Southern California more than Palestine and a European and American cast--including a blonde, blue-eyed Jesus and an Irish-accented Mary.

The Robe (1953)

When Roman tribune Marcellus Gallio (Richard Burton) is sent to Jerusalem, one of his assignments is the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Marcellus, a cynical and hardened man, wins the robe Jesus wore to the crucifixion while gambling with other Roman soldiers underneath the dying savior. He later becomes convinced that his hallucinations and violent outbursts are the result of a curse received from the robe, which is now in the possession of his escaped slave, Demetrius (Victor Mature), somewhere in the Middle East. He sets out to find Demetrius in order to destroy the robe and the curse and finds faith instead, converting to Christianity. This was the first movie to be filmed in CinemaScope, and won Oscars in 1953 for costume design, art direction, and set decoration. The visual aspects of the film are stunning, and it may be worth viewing for that alone; however, the script and acting leave much to be desired, and you won't find inspiration in these areas if that's what interests you. If, however, you are more interested in this film for its religious matter, the story of the conversion of the hardened Marcellus is inspiring.

Jennie Allen: CHASE (2012)

We’re all chasing after something, something that we think will make us happy—comfort, success, a bigger house, or someone's approval. But if we are all honest, it feels like trying to catch the wind.

A man after God’s own heart… As David's life weaves throughout the pages of Scripture, we see he was a man who spent his life chasing after God. This series explores the events that defined David's life and the Psalms that flowed out of those experiences. Through David's example we'll discover what God really wants from us.

The lessons in this study are simple yet deep and very interactive, offering Bible study, stories, and projects to dig into Scripture and deeply engage the mind and heart. God has carved out a space in each of us that only He can fill. So whether you are running from God or working your tail off to please Him, David's journey will challenge your view of God.

God is invisible, and yet He is the only thing we can chase that won't leave us feeling more empty.

Jennie Allen: STUCK (2011)

So many of us live stuck. Stuck in trying to seem perfect. Stuck in sadness. Stuck feeling numb. Stuck pursuing more stuff to make us happy. Stuck in something we can't even name. These stuck places often go unattended inside of us and they are shaping our lives more than we would like to think. We've been trying to fix this feeling with everything but…

God. He has a plan for these spaces inside of us, the places that feel broken, but we have to go to Him. Stuck is a journey to take an honest look at the fight going on inside, leading us to the God who has a plan to restore it, to restore us. Because as we realize that our stuck places are the very places that make us ache for God, we find Him waiting there for us with hope and freedom.

Scripture tells us there will be various degrees of rewards for believers--ranging from those who watch as all they accomplished is devoured in judgment, to those who are awarded the privilege of reigning with Christ. The judgment you receive will determine how you spend eternity. This curriculum will reveal an eternal perspective and motivate you to labor for what lasts.

    Discover your calling
Understand how the deceived and believers will be judged
Build a foundation of Scriptural truths about eternity
Draw seekers to salvation and Kingdom living
Learn to multiply what God has given to you

Francis Chan: Amazing Grace

How could God love me?

Don't you have to do something to earn God's love? Or does grace mean I can do anything I want? Many people have a hard time fully embracing the unique and unparalleled message of the gospel in Jesus Christ. It's hard to believe that because of God’s love and grace toward us, we can have eternal life and all sorts of blessings today through no effort or merit of our own. That seems too amazing to be true.

In these four challenging sessions, students share real-life stories about their own struggles and triumphs in coming to terms with God’s grace in their lives.

Francis Chan provides powerful teaching from Scripture and helps teens understand God’s amazing gift of grace, the relationship between grace and works, why grace doesn’t mean you should keep sinning, and how grace should impact your purpose in life.

Four powerful sessions:
Session 1 – Grace is a Gift (24 min.)
Session 2 – Grace and Works (21 min.)
Session 3 – Grace and Freedom (21 min.)
Session 4 – Grace and Your Purpose (22 min.)

Fireproof (2008)

Never leave your partner behind.

Capt. Caleb Holt lives by the old firefighter's adage: Never leave your partner behind. Inside burning buildings, it's his natural instinct. In the cooling embers of his marriage, it's another story.

After seven years of marriage, Caleb and Catherine Holt have drifted so far apart that they are ready to move on without each other. Yet as they prepare to enter divorce proceedings, Caleb's dad asks his son to try an experiment, The Love Dare.

While hoping The Love Dare has nothing to do with his parents' newfound faith, Caleb commits to the challenge. But can he attempt to love his wife while avoiding God's love for him? Will he be able to demonstrate love over and over again to a person that's no longer receptive to his love? Or is this just another marriage destined to go up in smoke?

Fireproof is the third feature film from Sherwood Pictures and the Kendrick Brothers—the creators of Facing The Giants & Flywheel. With hope-filled storytelling, the moviemaking ministry of Sherwood Baptist Church continues touching the world from Albany, Georgia.

On The Edge (2006)

The exciting sequel to the film, Thin Ice

Vince bets his college roommate he can prove that God exists. There’s only one problem: he has no idea how. His only hope is to take him on a camping trip with friends from church. Thus begins this adventure shot on location in the spectacular Yosemite National Park.

Amidst the hiking, campfires, and storytelling, they talk about the tough questions people ask in life. Laughter, sorrow, and plenty of action will definitely keep you "On The Edge" of your seat.

Thin Ice (2006)

Plenty of action both on and off the slopes
Vince, a college student, loves the mountains, skiing and fun, so an invitation to Lake Tahoe is a no-brainer...

However, the trip includes people from a church group, and six strong sets of opinions about God soon collide. Vince's weekend of fun is threatened as tensions rise and sparks fly. This thought provoking drama combines plenty
of action and humor both on and off the slopes.

“The film is extremely well done… Highly recommended!”

Kings (2009)

Kings is set in the fictional Kingdom of Gilboa, a modern absolute monarchy. Gilboa is ruled by King Silas Benjamin, who originally formed the united kingdom two decades before from the three warring countries of Gilboa, Carmel, and Selah. He believes that he has been divinely anointed king, and often cites the day when a swarm of Monarch butterflies once landed on his head in the form of "a living crown" which called upon him to form the Monarchy and Kingdom.

All is not well for Silas: his policies and actions are being manipulated by his queen's brother, William Cross, who holds substantial control over the royal treasury and also appears to be the major stakeholder as CEO/Chairman of Crossgen (which appears to have a large stake in the economy of Gilboa); his heir, Prince Jack, is a closeted homosexual, which could undermine the royal family; and Silas himself has a secret mistress, as well as a young son with her.

Events of the series are set into motion when young David Shepherd, a Gilboan soldier in a war against the Republic of Gath, single-handedly rescues a captive soldier from behind enemy lines and destroys a "Goliath-Class" tank with a hurled anti-tank mine. The captive soldier is Prince Jack, and David not only becomes an instant star in the national media, but also earns the gratitude of King Silas, much to the chagrin of the prince.

King Silas brings David into the capital city of Shiloh where he is promoted to Captain and then maneuvered into the plum position of military liaison to the media. He soon finds himself in the midst of royal court politics with little initial awareness of the forces acting behind them. He also develops feelings for Silas' daughter, Princess Michelle, which she privately reciprocates.

Queen Rose runs the royal household with an iron fist and does her best to keep the warring factions of the family from destroying the monarchy. She is the one person to whom the King will listen, while he will not hesitate to turn his back on or even order the death penalty for his own children. Queen Rose, in many ways, rules the Kingdom from behind the scenes.

In the pilot episode, David, much like Silas years before, is set upon by a living "crown" of Monarch butterflies, as Silas witnesses the event from a discreet distance. Silas has already been told that God no longer supports his reign, and this then implies that David is the divine choice as his successor. This troubles the King so much that he initially plots to have David killed. David, however, soon comes to interpret the appearance of the Monarch butterflies as an omen that he is meant to serve King Silas, and the sovereign accepts this, progressively drawing David deeper into his court. Through the series, David and Michelle's romance blossoms, first secretly and then publicly when Michelle informs King Silas. Silas falsely accuses David of being a traitor because David lied to Silas about his relationship with Michelle. During David's imprisonment, Michelle learns that she is pregnant with David's child.

The intervening episodes continue to use symbolism and images to add depth to the basic story line, such as casting shadows in the shape of a cross on David and other characters, historical and biblical stories being intertwined in the plot (David defeating the seemingly invincible Goliath tank), return of a prodigal son (or nephew, in this case), and King Silas making promises and pleas directly to God that are answered, but not always as he had hoped. There also are references to more modern themes, such as the Cold War, encroachment of technology in our lives, companies that perpetuate wars to make money, and national policy being influenced by the holding of the nation's treasury hostage.
