Nineteen-year-old Renee Yohe (Kat Dennings) has always loved fairy tales: the idea of a princess, a hero and a happily ever after. But Renee's life is that of a darker tale: she's a young woman battling addiction, depression and self-injury issues. Her struggle wtih addiction and abuse ultimately leads to the founding of the charity group To Write Love on Her Arms in 2006.
In a creative blend of artistic fantasy, music and confrontation with harsh reality, the movie follows Renee as she discovers the value of geniune friendships and embarks on a daunting, yet courageous journey towards recovery.
